About Awofeso

Our Family History

The Awofeso surname is predominantly found in Nigeria, especially in Ogun State, where approximately 44% of individuals bearing the name reside. The name is also present in Lagos and Oyo states, indicating the family’s Yoruba roots. The Awofeso lineage is part of the Lemoye Lesu Ruling House, one of the royal families in Erunwon. Notably, Oba A. O. Awofeso from this family served as the Elerunwon of Erunwon, the town’s traditional ruler. Following his demise, there was a seven-year interregnum before the installation of a new Oba.

Erunwon itself is a town with a rich cultural heritage, and its traditional leadership, including families like the Awofesos, plays a crucial role in maintaining the town’s customs and governance structures.
